Hello, my name is Sophie, and I am one of over 40,000 Career Ready students in the UK. The Career Ready programme is designed to support young people in gaining valuable experience and key skills needed for the world of work, through masterclasses, mentors and a work placement. I was incredibly lucky to have my summer work placement at Ambitions Personnel in Lincoln.
Lizzie has guided me through my two-week placement, where I learnt key skills needed for the workplace. In the office, I learnt how to do key administrative skills such as filing, archiving and filling out forms, but also skills more specific to a recruitment agency, such as marking English tests and contacting workers. I also shadowed Lizzie as she carried out an interview.
I was taught how to greet people and answer the phone in a professional way, which has really helped me to develop my confidence. I shadowed Dawn at reception, who was very helpful in showing me how to deal with people’s queries in a busy environment. Dealing with such a wide range of people at the front desk has also helped me to develop my communication skills.
Before I came to Ambitions Personnel, I didn’t very much experience of a workplace at all, but the people there have been really helpful and supportive, and they have helped me to have a wonderful two weeks! I have learnt transferable skills and had some important experience that I can use for my own career in the future.
