It’s a Knockout 2017 – Newark Rugby Club

We were excited to once again be sponsors of the ‘It’s a Knockout’ challenge organised by Newark Patriotic Fund and held at Newark Rugby Club.

On Saturday 24th June, two teams from Ambitions’ Lincoln, Newark and Grantham branches battled it out against other local businesses in a series of physical challenges, based on the 1980’s TV show!

Last year’s event raised over a huge £8,000 for the Newark Patriotic Fund, and we hope that this year’s event will have been even bigger! The charity helps injured serving and ex-service personnel, and their families, in the local area.

East Midlands Top 200 Report

As reported in the Lincolnshire Business, we are delighted to be featured in the East Midlands Top 200 report once again!

The East Midlands Top 200 Report, now in its fifth year, provides the region’s only in-depth study of the fastest growing companies by key sector and performance indicators, delivering a barometer of overall economic performance.

The report is produced by financial and business advisors Grant Thornton UK LLP in partnership with CBI. More than 20% of the businesses featured were from Lincolnshire and its findings also indicated Lincolnshire is investing more in research and development than any other East Midlands county, potential down to its strong agricultural and manufacturing heritage.

We’re certainly proud of our Lincolnshire roots and look forward to many more years of working in partnerships with businesses around the county!

NatWest Charity Table Football

Thank you to Natwest Commercial Banking for inviting us to take part in their ‘Charity Champions League Table Football’ competition for the second year running.

Last Wednesday saw Team Ambitions attend the Maltings Arena for the third round of group stages where we were ‘pitched’ against strong teams from Sills & Betteridge, Duncan & Toplis and Savills.  After last year’s ‘wooden spoon’ performance, the pressure was on!

Thanks to the addition of two new faces to our team and a year’s experience under our belts, we were able to put in a strong performance on the night.  However, despite our best efforts, it still wasn’t quite enough to see us progress to the final, with a third place finish overall.

Good luck to the remaining teams for the finals night! All proceeds go to local charities as chosen by the overall winners.

The event is also open to the public, with the organisers keen to reinforce that there is no age limit on opportunities such as Apprenticeships.

The event is being organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council, Lincoln College Group and the Advertiser Media Group, and is being sponsored by British Sugar.

If you’d like to find out more about the vacancies we have available, or the training courses provided through our training division ‘AP Training’, then pop along to today’s event.

Apprenticeship Levy

Apprenticeship Levy

As of 6th April 2017, all businesses with an annual payroll of over £3 million will be subject to the apprenticeship levy.  The levy is calculated as 0.5% of the employer’s pay bill and is determined automatically by the Real Time Information submitted to HMRC.

The introduction of the levy is part of the Government’s plan to increase the quality and quantity of apprenticeships available.

All of the levy paid (plus a 10% government top up applied to businesses in England) will go into a digital account, known as the ‘Digital Apprenticeship Service’ (DAS). Employers will be able to access their funds from May 2017, and will have up to 24 months to use them before they expire.

The levy can be used to fund accredited apprenticeship training and assessment, provided by Government approved training providers only. Businesses can recruit new apprentices or they can spend it on training existing employees. The levy cannot be used to pay for apprentices’ wages or expenses etc.

Apprenticeships usually last for a minimum of one year, based on working a minimum of 30 hours per week – which must include 20% ‘off the job’ training. Apprentices must be paid at least the relevant minimum wage (currently £3.50 per hour for those under 19, or over 19 but in their first year of their apprenticeship) and are entitled to normal pay and conditions as any other employee – including holiday pay.

Via the DAS, employers will be able to view the different types of apprenticeships available, the amount of funding they can draw down for each apprenticeship and find a training provider.

These changes do not affect any apprenticeship training which commenced or commences before 1st May 2017. Businesses with staff in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are still liable to pay the levy, but there are different rules for how it can be used.

Contact AP Training on 01636 611320 to find out how we can train your existing staff or help you find the right new apprentice to grow your business.

Team Ambitions’ Lincoln 10k raises over £600

Lincoln 10K 2017 OIE

On Sunday 2nd April 2017 a team of 15 runners from Ambitions Personnel took to the streets of uphill Lincoln for the annual Lincoln 10k road race.

Between them, they’ve so far raised over £600.00 in sponsorship; which is all being donated to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Ambitions Personnel Director, Mandy Watson, says “We’ve been taking part in the Lincoln 10k for many years and there’s always a great atmosphere. This year, we chose to support Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance as they rely purely on donations to keep the Ambucopter flying and saving lives every day”

Great job Team Ambitions!
