National Apprentice Week 2012 – Case Study

In celebration of National Apprentice Week (6th – 10th February 2012), one of our apprentices – Lucy Swain – who is completing a Business Administration Apprenticeship in our Boston branch has given some insight into life as an Apprentice!

Having done my A-levels in 2011 I knew I wanted to go into full time work. I was therefore really pleased to find that by choosing an apprenticeship I was able to gain another qualification whilst earning experience and a wage. My responsibilities at ambitions include reception duties such as answering the phone, meeting and greeting any visitors to the office and ensuring that they receive the help and information they need.

A lot of my business and administrative experience is gained when inputting necessary data into spreadsheets and schedules that are then sent to the relevant departments. I have also learnt how important accuracy and attention to detail is within business.

Working closely with all colleagues enables me to understand the various roles within Ambitions and gains me an insight into the different departments and personalities involved in the day to day running of the company. This also brings a social aspect to work making it more enjoyable.

By completing this NVQ, I believe it will help me towards a career in the business industry and support me in my future plans. The training I am completing fits into my day-to-day work schedule and is relevant to the duties I do every day. I feel I would not have gained this vital experience had I gone to university and even more importantly I am starting my working life whilst continuing with further education.
